The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has come out to clarify on reports that emerged about the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during the weekend.
This follows a reporting by the Daily Nation newspaper on its Monday, 11, 2024 issue where it claimed detectives from the investigating agency in unmarked cars tried to prevent Gachagua from attending a church service in Nairobi.
However, the DCI denied the allegations terming the reporting as malicious and outside the principle of responsible journalism.
They called out the newspaper for the reporting insisting that the security organ operates within the rule of law– which protects the freedom of both institutions and individuals.
“We want to clarify that these allegations are entirely false and seem to be aimed at misrepresenting the actions and intentions of the DCI. The DCI operates within the parameters established by the rule of law and has consistently affirmed its commitment to refraining from interference in the liberties of individuals and institutions,” read part of the DCI statement on its X handle.
“The Daily Nation must thoroughly verify facts, present balanced perspectives, and handle sensitive topics carefully to uphold its commitment to truth and fairness in journalism. This is particularly important when the information affects individuals’ reputations and the integrity of institutions,” they concluded.
