Saboti Member of Parliament, Caleb Amisi, has offered key foreign policy advice to President William Ruto’s administration, urging the government to adopt a more assertive and strategic approach in Kenya’s international relations.

Amisi, a member of the opposition and a vocal political figure, made the remarks during a recent interview where he discussed Kenya’s foreign policy direction under the current leadership.

According to Amisi, Kenya must prioritize strengthening its diplomatic ties within Africa, particularly with neighboring countries, while also expanding its influence on the global stage.

He emphasized that Kenya’s strategic position in East Africa and its status as a regional powerhouse should be leveraged more effectively to attract investment and boost trade relations.

“Kenya has immense potential in the regional and global markets, and it’s time we position ourselves not only as a diplomatic leader but also as an economic partner that other nations want to engage with,” Amisi said.

One of Amisi’s key recommendations was for Kenya to diversify its foreign policy alliances, ensuring that the country is not overly reliant on any single foreign power.

He specifically pointed to the importance of diversifying trade partnerships, not just with traditional allies such as the United States and China, but also with emerging economies in Africa and the Middle East.

This, he argued, would help Kenya reduce the risks of diplomatic isolation and open up new avenues for trade and investment.

Amisi also stressed the need for Kenya to play a more active role in peacekeeping and conflict resolution in Africa.

He pointed to Kenya’s long-standing contributions to peace missions across the continent, including in Somalia and South Sudan, and urged the government to continue promoting peace and stability, especially in conflict-prone regions.

“Kenya’s leadership in peacekeeping is respected, and we should be looking at how we can expand our role in fostering stability and security across the continent,” he added.

Additionally, Amisi called on President Ruto’s administration to maintain a focus on climate change in its foreign policy, arguing that global environmental issues are increasingly shaping diplomatic discussions.
