Residents in Eastleigh, Nairobi, were left stunned after CCTV footage surfaced showing a brutal assault on a 20-year-old woman in her home.
In the video, a man, armed with a hammer and accompanied by the family’s maid, is seen violently attacking the young woman in a sixth-floor apartment in Starehe Sub-county’s Ushirika area.Photo/Courtesy
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has identified the assailant and the maid, both Ugandan nationals.
According to DCI findings, the maid, identified only as Evelyn, had been with the family for less than a month and allegedly orchestrated the attack, enabling the intruder’s access to the residence.
Reports reaching our news desk at this hour receal that after the incident, Evelyn fled and remains at large.
The suspects are believed to have stolen several high-value items, including gold jewellery, cash in Kenyan shillings and US dollars, and four family-owned laptops.
Authorities described the victim’s injuries as severe, noting she suffered a broken tooth, hand, head, and leg wounds, along with whip marks on her back, visible in the video footage obtained by local media.Photo/Courtesy
Following the attack, the injured woman was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care and has since been discharged to her family in Tassia Estate.
The family’s primary tenant, reportedly a Somali businessman, was away with his children during the incident, while his wife was receiving medical treatment in India.
This alarming assault comes on the heels of recent murders targeting Somali women in Nairobi, leading to a surge of fear and concern within the Somali community, especially in Eastleigh.
In response, the DCI has pledged to intensify efforts to locate the suspects and bring them to justice as they continue probing the extent of the crime.
