Today, university students in the country of Kenya received some excellent news. This happened as news emerged of a verdict by the high court regarding the continuing lecturers’ strike, which has halted education across the country.

According to Citizen TV, the labour court has declared that professors’ prolonged strike is illegal and unprotected, and that they should return to the lecture halls. The court also asked the dons to engage in negotiations with the government, which has previously signalled a willingness to communicate through the minister of education. This decision is a significant victory for university students because it allows them to resume classes at any time beginning today.

Lecturers from the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) went on strike on Tuesday, asking that the government comply with the demands outlined in the 2012-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement. UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga stated that they have urged the government to honour the negotiated return-to-work formula, which included several perks to ensure their wellbeing.
