The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) welcomed a significant defection as Micah Kigen, Elgeyo Marakwet County ODM Chair, officially left the opposition and joined the ruling party.

Kigen, once a strong ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga, was a key figure in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and had previously run for the Keiyo South parliamentary seat under the party’s banner.

Kigen was welcomed to UDA at the party headquarters, Hustler Plaza, where he was accompanied by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang, Woman Representative Carolyn Ng’elechei, and several current and former Members of County Assembly.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar and National Treasurer Japheth Nyakundi officially received him, applauding the strategic significance of Kigen’s shift in allegiance.

Raila Diehard Kalenjin Man Micah Kigen Speaks to the hearts of Kenyans!

“UDA Party welcomed Elgeyo Marakwet County ODM Chairman Micah Kigen to its ranks after he joined the party from the opposition. I welcome you to UDA my brother Micah Kigen. I want to state that it is President William Ruto’s desire that we listen to Kenyans, pay attention to Kenyans’ issues of concern and address those issues Kenyans are raising,” said Omar.

Nyakundi encouraged Kigen and his supporters to effectively represent UDA values within their communities. He urged them to become “ambassadors of UDA and President Ruto’s vision” as they returned to their respective areas.

His move is expected to bolster UDA’s presence in Elgeyo Marakwet, a region where political dynamics are increasingly competitive. This only leaves Kipkorir Menjo as the only Raila Odinga’s fierce defender from the North Rift region.
