Kisii County Senator, Richard Onyonka, has shared his thoughts on how he plans to vote in the upcoming impeachment trial of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Last week, Gachagua was impeached by the National Assembly. Now, the final decision lies with the Senate, which will vote on whether he keeps his role as Deputy President or returns to his village in Wamunyoro.

As Kenyans eagerly wait for the Senate’s decision, which is set for Thursday, Senator Onyonka emphasized that his vote will be based on solid evidence, not on rumors or unverified information.

“In the Senate, we will thoroughly review every accusation made against the Deputy President,” Onyonka said. “For example, if someone claims that Gachagua has taken away his brother’s children’s inheritance, they must provide real evidence, not just hearsay.”

Onyonka also addressed the accusation that Gachagua favors people from his own community in appointments. “It might be true that he has chosen members from his tribe, but isn’t that the same thing the President has done? The President has appointed over 100 Principal Secretaries from his own region,” he noted.

The Senator’s statement suggests that he will approach the vote with caution, focusing on facts and fairness as he decides whether to support or reject Gachagua’s impeachment.
