William Kabogo, a former governor of Kiambu, reportedly stated that former President Uhuru Kenyatta foresaw the issues that Kenya would face in the future and hence neglected the people. Kabogo, known for his candour, claimed that voters ignored Kenyatta’s warnings and blamed Kenyans for their current situation.

We are in this situation now because Uhuru Kenyatta neglected us, despite knowing what was coming. He only gave us hazy hints of what was to follow. “I frequently feel like Kenyans leave their minds at home during elections,” Kabogo stated. His comments highlight what appears to be a gap in voters’ comprehension of long-term consequences during elections.

In the interim, Kenyatta warned against supporting William Ruto and urged against voting for the wrong candidate in the 2022 national elections. Kabogo’s comments, now that he has apologized, imply that residents in Mount Kenya opted to vote for Ruto rather than heed Kenyatta’s warnings. The evolving story emphasizes how political decisions affect the country’s course and raises questions about voters’ involvement in selecting that course.
