A youthful Member of Parliament (MP) recently found himself in hot water after being forced to return a bribe he had accepted. According to a report by The Star Kenya’s “Corridors of Power” feature, the MP, known for being easily persuaded by financial incentives, had taken a hefty sum to vote against the majority’s decision in a recent parliamentary matter. However, things didn’t go as planned for the lawmaker.

During a strategy meeting, the MP’s secret deal was exposed, leaving him in a difficult position. Fearing severe consequences from both sides—those who bribed him and his colleagues—the MP panicked. In an attempt to avoid further backlash, he switched off his mobile phones and hid in his house.

But his determined colleagues were not willing to let the issue slide so easily. They tracked him down, and the MP had no choice but to return the money he had been paid to change his vote.

This revelation has raised eyebrows, especially given the timing. Recently, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya made some shocking claims regarding the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gakuya alleged that certain MPs had been bribed with Ksh 500,000 to vote in favor of the motion to remove the Deputy President from office. While it’s unclear if these two stories are connected, the fact that bribery and political maneuvering are in the spotlight is undeniable.
