President William Ruto held a meeting today with a high-profile leader at State House, Nairobi. The meeting comes amid growing calls for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s ouster with the Senate expected to preside over the impeachment hearing in the coming days.

The visit by Prime Minister Dr Garry Conille comes at a time when Kenyan troops are deployed in Haiti to bring law and order to the country. While giving a speech at Statehouse, President William Ruto noted that last year he pledged that Kenya would lead the international response to Haiti’s urgent call for support in restoring safety and security for the Haitian people.

In his speech, the President pointed out that he had urged the UN General Assembly to establish a framework to enable this vital mission to be undertaken on the second of October last year. He added that the framework was realized when the UN Security Council authorized the deployment of the multinational security support mission to Haiti and Kenya immediately answered this call on 24th June this year.

President Ruto also said that the peace-keeping mission by Kenyan troops is showing positive results, restoring hope and providing a glimpse of stability. The Head of State also noted that the meeting with the Haitian Prime Minister marks a significant step as the two countries reaffirm their commitment to peace, progress, and partnership.

The President also made a major announcement during the meeting revealing that an addition of 600 Kenyan police officers are almost completing their pre-deployment training and will soon be ready for duty. He emphasized that Kenyan officers are working closely with the Haitian National Police to restore order, protect critical infrastructure and create a peaceful environment for the Haitian people.
