Kenyan men were on the receiving end yet again as lovers across the world commemorated boyfriend’s day. The day, celebrated on the 3rd of October, passed with no major visible activity on social media.
Things were a bit different, with the most notable perhaps being former U. S 1st lady Michelle Obama celebrating her 29th anniversary with her better half, former U.S President Barrack Obama.
‘How it started vs how it’s going. I love you.’ Michelle captioned the photos.

While some men languished in silence, opting for diplomacy given that the day fell on a Sunday, others wished the dreadful day would end lest they get posted by multiple partners.
“I want none of my significant other to post me. That’s a breach no one should know about us,” a man could be heard bragging.
Unlike men, Kenyan ladies will hardly post their lovers, so inactivity on social media didn’t come as a surprise.
It was, however, not short of the traditional Kenyan sarcasm, with memes flooding timelines most of the day.
“Tungoje watoke kanisa watu post? (Let’s wait until they leave church, they might post us.)” Said a wishful lover.
“Boyfriends day? Never heard of it before,” wrote another netizen.
A third, probably angered by her better half’s enthusiasm for football, said, “ata postiwa na Manchester United.”
While it remains an unofficial day, most men went about their Monday, normally perhaps internally soothing the internal bruise they sustained for not being acknowledged.
Well, boyfriends too need some love, so next year, just mark your calendar and celebrate that man who’s touched your life in any way. It matters.
