For the first time in almost a quarter of a century, Eric Nahashon Kiragu is not serving as former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s bodyguard.
Kiragu, a Commissioner of Police, had served the retired President for 21 years since the latter’s nomination to Parliament in 2001 to the end of his presidency in 2022.
He quickly rose through the police ranks to his current rank of Commissioner of Police. This makes him senior enough in the service to be considered for top posts in future.
For someone that Uhuru had entrusted with his security for over two decades, Kiragu’s work ethics could have played a big role in winning the trust of the former Head of State.
Now back to his civilian roles as a police officer, Kiragu now serving as traffic police chief in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
But somehow, his rank as Commissioner of Police will place him in a pole position to be picked for a much senior police role in future.
Just as former Uhuru Aide-de-camp Lieutenant General Peter Mbogo Njiru who rose to become Kenya Army Commander, Kiragu may also defy all odds to become police chief in future.
