The Senate revealed that the Adani Group was also slated to oversee the recently established Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), placing President William Ruto’s administration under intense criticism. Davis Chirchir, the manager of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), was called before the Senate to provide a detailed explanation of the Adani transaction during a motion that was held today. The Adani Group was supposed to oversee KenGen, the new insurance fund (SHIF), and the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO), according to Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.

“The documents we have, including those from the Cabinet Secretary (CS), show that Adani has been given contractual arrangements to supply power in Kenya through KETRACO, take over KenGen, and they will be the ones managing the Social Health Insurance Fund,” he claimed. The senator continued by saying that the JKIA-Adani agreement was in place even prior to the government involving Kenyan nationals. The Senate also discussed the withholding of a crucial document pertaining to the JKIA-Adani contract, which made it more difficult for senators to support the proposal.
