Details emerging indicates that Nairobi CBD is currently inaccessible. This is after angry demonstrators mainly comprised of hawkers stormed the city earlier today.
It’s reported that they have also blocked Haile Selassie Avenue and Jogoo Road is currently impassible. They are burning tyres and police have intervened, teargas have been witnessed all over as police tries to disburse those protesters.
“Since 3am traders at Wakulima (Marikiti) Market have been demonstrating while burning tyres and blocking Haile Selassie Avenue. There is teargas all over. Jogoo Road and Nairobi CBD are not accessible at the moment through Marikiti,” read the message shared by Alinur Mohammed in his X account.
From April, continuous strikes and demonstrations have been witnessed in the country. Doctors and JSS teachers were the first to hold protests, later on Gen-Zs staged deadly demonstrations following the the proposed finance bill.
Others who have participated and threatened to participate in strikes includes teachers, public workers, JKIA workers and University lecturers among many.
This has left many wondering if Kenya Kwanza government under president William Ruto has failed somewhere and not able to satisfy the needs of Kenyans who’ve been peacefully working for many years without participating in strikes.
