Police in Juja town used tear gas to disperse a group of unruly protesters who held a chaotic demonstration in Juja, Kiambu County, and blocked the Thika Super Highway with bonfires today.
Reports from kenyans.co.ke via their Facebook page say that the upset locals were protesting after a 4-year-old boy was attacked and killed by a hyena.
Residents from Juja are said to have joined the protest on motorcycles, chanting and blaming the Kiambu County government for the increasing hyena attacks in the area.
The protesters caused a heavy traffic jam on the Thika Super Highway, accusing the authorities of ignoring their calls for protection.
Traffic police from Juja Station are currently working to manage the situation and help clear the traffic that has lasted several hours.
The angry locals are asking the government to increase patrols in the area to reduce the danger posed by wild animals.
We hope the authorities will act quickly to investigate the incident and bring justice to the boy’s family.
