TSC Backdahe Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a backdated salary increment for all teachers, effective from July 2024. This move is part of the ongoing implementation of the Sh54 billion Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed for the 2017-2021 period. The salary adjustments will be reflected across all job cadres, benefiting teachers from various ranks under the Career Progression Guidelines (CPG).

The increment, which will be backdated to July, is expected to provide financial relief and ensure that teachers receive the compensation they deserve. This follows extensive negotiations between the TSC and teachers’ unions, aiming to improve teachers’ welfare and working conditions.

The decision to backdate the salary increment comes after teachers raised concerns over delayed pay rises, particularly with the new grading system introduced under the CPG. The CPG restructured the previous schemes, leading to new job descriptions, grading, and pay scales, which have been gradually implemented over the years.

Underthe backdated increment, teachers across different grades, from primary to secondary school levels, will see an increase in their basic salaries and allowances. The TSC has assured teachers that the backdated amounts will be processed and included in their upcoming pay slips. This move is seen as a step toward fulfilling the promises made in the CBA and addressing the concerns raised by teachers about their remuneration.

The implementation of this salary increment aligns with the broader goals of the TSC to enhance the quality of education in Kenya by motivating teachers through better pay and working conditions. As the country continues to prioritize education, the TSC’s commitment to improving teachers’ welfare is a crucial aspect of these efforts.

This salary increment is expected to positively impact teachers’ morale and productivity, ultimately benefiting students’ learning experiences. The TSC’s decision to backdate the pay increase is also a recognition of the hard work and dedication of teachers, who play a critical role in shaping the future of the nation.
