Sombre mood engulfed Saboti ward in Bungoma county as a Kenya Defence Force soldier who died in the line of duty was being laid to rest in an emotional send-off.

According to the source, the deceased identified as Martin Cheprot Mayebei was a KDF soldier from Kongit in Mount Elgon. Sources revealed that he succumbed to a short illness while receiving treatment at the hospital. The cottage left Delight Funeral Home in Kimilili to Saboti ward where hundreds of mourners had gathered to pay their last respects to the fallen soldier. Martin Cheprot Mayebei was eulogized as a patriotic citizen who spent his life protecting the country.

His fellow soldiers mourned him as a gallant soldier who was humble and maintained a good rapport with other people. He will be missed by many people. Saboti ward MCA was among the politicians who attended the burial ceremony of the late soldier. A gun salute moment was observed in the honour of the fallen hero. Elsewhere, an Administration Police officer stationed at Jamhuri Police Station was laid to rest Yesterday at his farm in Kangema, Murang’a county.
