Nyeri Archdiocese Archbishop Anthony Muheria, has called on the government and those in authority to respect and fulfil what Gen Zs were asking during their demos.
Speaking in Wamagana town in Nyeri County during an annual Catholic youth service on Saturday, Muheria said among many things, corruption and integrity of those in leadership needs to be addressed.
He urged the youth not to fear or get tired of calling out such vices which he said may destabilise the country.
âWe want to use this opportunity to remind those in office that they have a sacred duty to follow the demands of the people of Kenya and follow the demands of God for honesty, integrityâŚthey must listen, itâs not an option,â the Archbishop said.
âWe are asking all those in authority to give respect to every single life and especially to the young people. Perhaps, they are not as experienced but that doesnât mean they donât have a good thing to contribute to us.â
He asked those in leadership to uphold integrity and professionalism when serving Kenyans and shun practices such as corruption.
âThis is what the young people have been trying to tell us, is that we desire to bring this goodness to the nation and to our church,â he noted.
âI want to thank all these young people and tell them they must sustain their hope, not lose hope in terms of the desires we have but it must be channeled in a nice way, of love and of service and in the way of building our interior muscles so that we donât become broken because of money, wealth or other things.â
Thousands of young people attended the event, which ended with a 10kms walk from Wamagana to Nyeri town.
