The Kenya Wildlife Service has launched a major initiative to reduce the population of crows along the country’s coastal areas. The campaign, set to be completed by December 31, 2024, aims to cull approximately one million crows that have been deemed a significant nuisance to both residents and tourists.

According to KWS, these birds have caused considerable disruption, including loud, irritating noises and frequent snatching of food. The agency notes that the crows have also raised health concerns, prompting the decision to eliminate them to protect public safety.

KWS officials emphasize that the culling is a necessary measure to mitigate the negative impact these birds have on the local environment and to reduce the risk of disease transmission. The operation is expected to continue throughout the year, with the goal of restoring balance to the affected areas by the end of 2024.
