John Harun Mwau is one of the most controversial figures in the history of Kenyan politics.
In late 1990s and 2000s, Mwau was at the peak of his powers as a politician.
Mwau, a former police officer, was thrust in the limelight when he was appointed as the first ever chairman of the Ant- Corruption Commission. But he never lasted long in the position before being dismissed by the then President Daniel Arap Moi.
He would go on to establish himself as a politician where he served as an MP for Kilome in Makueni.
Mwau is best known for his party, PICK which he he led for over three decades.
In the Grand Coalition government between President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Mwau was appointed as trade assistant minister.
In 2013, he unsuccessfully ran for the Makueni County senator position but lost the race to the polished Mutula Kilonzo Jr.
From there, the former lawmaker has never recovered amid speculations on the whereabouts of the 76- year old Mwau.
Once considered one of the richest politicians in the country, the sudden exit of Mwau from high octane politics has been felt.
