Be active in your son’s lives, Konshen’s moving plea to men

A month ago, Jamaican dancehall star Garfield Delano Spence better known by his stage name Konshens dedicated some of his time to help destigmatize mental health.In a bid to raise awareness, he held an event dubbed “Talk Bout it” in association with Delus Lived Foundation. A foundation launched in 2017 in memory of his older brother Delus who committed suicide in 2016 at the age of 35. Upbeat about the impact of his outreach programme, Konshens has today, November 30, taken to Instagram to educate men, especially those with sons to be active in their children’s lives.The “Talk Bout ir” session [Photo: @konshens]The father of two stated that men need to teach their sons lessons that school teachers won’t and can’t impart.“Be active in your son’s lives. Teach them lessons the school teacher won’t and can’t. Be an ear and confidant and supporter. Advise them with the knowledge you gained from your own mistakes. If not he may become a fully grown adult boy,” stated Konshens.READ ALSO: Konshens splits from wife weeks to Nairobi perfomanceThe Couple Up artiste poured cold water on societal emphasis on school and money and reiterated that men must rise and advise their sons.“A boy can figure out how to stop his hunger and how to be a provider and how to win, but it’s much harder to figure out life,” he added.Konshens [Photo: @konshens]The Caribbean icon went on to point out how a boy can change if he wants to and how life can be tough on them without any guidance.”Don’t leave it up to a gang to teach him honour, if his friends exposed him to loyalty what happens if his friends become disloyal? Who will teach him empathy, he can learn street smarts and how to hustle but who will teach him to avoid excess and to practice restraint?”Konshens [Photo: @konshens]He lastly stressed, “So much emphasis is placed on school and money but we are creating a world of Narcissistic Man children who will wake up one day and see a string of damage and important losses along the road to that coveted self W.
