A section of Kenyans have reacted after a resident spoke about the situation in Kisumu. The city traditionally known for its active participation in anti-government protests, remains peaceful amidst the ongoing demonstrations that have rocked several parts of the country, including Nairobi.
During a live broadcast on Citizen TV, a Kisumu resident and businessman expressed the city’s new stance on the protests. When asked by a reporter to share his views on the day of protests, he confidently stated that the city had chosen peace over demonstrations.
“Businesses are running as usual, shops are open, and people are going about their daily activities,” the businessman said, emphasizing that Kisumu had abandoned the culture of demonstrations.
He attributed this shift in attitude to the region’s newfound satisfaction with the current government. “We are happy because we are now part of the government,” he said, expressing gratitude to President William Samoei Ruto for appointing several Cabinet Secretaries from the region.
The businessman also pointed out the absence of protests in the Nyanza region, which includes Kisumu. “If you take a keen look at the Nyanza region, there are no protests,” he observed, adding that the residents are pleased with the appointments of prominent figures like John Mbadi and Opiyo Wandayi.
He urged these leaders to work towards restoring the economy and ensuring normalcy across the country.
