Former prime minister Raila Odinga’s ally Hon Wycliffe Oparanya who is the former governor for Kakamega county has been dealt a major blow after the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) ordered for a delay in his approval as a CS. The EACC in a letter they wrote to the clerk of the National Assembly asked the members of parliament not to approve him as the vetting process started on Wednesday.

The EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak said that investigations into the graft charges of Oparanya are still ongoing and he can not therefore be approved to serve in the office he was nominated to. The commission said that Oparanya who is the outgoing ODM party Deputy Leader will be isolated from the vetting process as his colleagues will be going through.

“The commission conducted an investigation on allegations of corruption against the nominee for offences committed during his his stint as the governor of Kakamega county.” The letter to the National Assembly read in part.
