Security has been heightened at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following the release of a video by blogger Cyprian Nyakundi showing a police chopper hovering over the area.

This comes amid reports of deadly ‘Total Shutdown’ demonstrations in Nairobi’s Imara Daima and Kitengela, where several people have been reportedly shot by police.

According to Kenyans.co.ke, the police are struggling to contain the situation as demonstrators have resorted to looting.

In Kitengela, violent clashes erupted with protesters hurling stones at police officers, who responded with tear gas to disperse the crowd. The unrest intensified earlier today when youths armed with clubs, allegedly hired by local businesses, marched through the streets.

In Imara Daima, the situation remains equally volatile. Protesters have set tyres alight and barricaded roads with stones, severely disrupting the area. The police presence has significantly increased as authorities work to regain control.

The demonstrations, which are happening just a few kilometers from JKIA, have created a tense and chaotic environment, with the potential for further escalation.
