Gen Z on the social media platform X are angry at one of the platform’s popular personalities, Kevin Monari, also known as Osama Otero. This is because Otero hosted the President of Kenya, William Ruto, on his own X Space.
Otero has been a strong critic of President Ruto. He was even kidnapped and later released during the recent protests against the Finance Bill. However, on Friday, July 5th, Otero hosted a Space that was meant to happen at the same time as the President’s own Space. This was even though Otero had promised his followers that he would disrupt Ruto’s X event.
To the surprise of many, Otero quickly let President Ruto and the President’s spokesperson, Hussein Mohammed, into his Space and allowed them to speak to his followers. This sudden change in stance from someone who had fiercely opposed the Kenyan government caught a lot of people off guard. Thousands of Otero’s followers were shocked by his apparent change of heart.
Otero had previously warned people not to join the President’s Space, and instead offered an alternative event. He had even suggested that the President’s Space would cost at least 50 million Kenyan shillings, with each Cabinet Secretary spending 1 million on equipment.
However, on the day of the event, Otero ended up co-hosting the same Space with the people he had been fighting against for the past month, even after being kidnapped and tortured for his opposition.
Otero’s planned co-host, Kimuzi, was one of the many disappointed Kenyans. Other X personalities, such as Hanifa Adan and T.R. Okuna, also expressed their anger and disappointment, with Adan using strong language to criticize Otero.
