On Thursday, June 27, UDA-nominated Member of Parliament Jackson Kosgei recounted how protesters saved his life after Parliament was breached during the anti-Finance Bill protests on Tuesday.
In an interview, Kosgei revealed that he couldn’t evacuate the building with his colleagues because he uses a wheelchair. He explained that the evacuation route leading to the tunnel was not accessible for disabled individuals, prompting him to seek refuge in a building within Parliament.
Kosgei, along with a female MP who uses crutches, decided to take shelter in the private members’ lounge.
However, the demonstrators made their way to the building, and the youth began to engage him in conversation.
Contrary to his expectations, he stated that the demonstrators recommended him to leave the building, even attempting to evacuate him for his own safety.
“When they came and found us there they told me that they knew who I was. They told me that I was a good man and they wanted to escort me out stating that what would happen next may not be good,” the nominated MP narrated.
“They said that they were not bad people but were just fighting for their rights. They asked me where they wanted me to go and I told them where they could take me. They took me to a safe place.”
Despite his support for the Finance Bill 2024, Kosgei expressed gratitude to the young guys for their assistance and added that they had shown him compassion.
“I want to thank the young men who saved my life and that of my colleague. Even in their moment of anger, they still had humanity in them,” he stated
