A top police official is receiving medical attention for wounds he suffered during protests in Nairobi’s central business district.
On Tuesday, June 18, during altercations with Kenyan demonstrators against the recently proposed taxes in the Finance Bill 2024, an event took place.
Chief Inspector David Maina of the Rapid Deployment Unit unintentionally set off a tear gas canister too soon while trying to stop them from moving towards Parliament.
This created a catastrophic explosion in which he lost both of his forearms. He was sent right away to Nairobi West Hospital in order to receive emergency care.
The incident is captured on camera, with Chief Maina startling other cops by jumping in shock at the unexpected explosion.
