The month of June is almost coming to an end as we are in the second half and as we head towards July, there have been changes in weather patterns across various parts of the country.
The sunlight intensity over some parts has decreased paving way for cold and cloudy conditions. This clearly indicates that moderate to above rainfall will be witnessed over most parts during the month of July.
With the changing weather patterns, some parts are already receiving heavy rainfall in Kenya and this will continue throughout the next month.
As a result, the Kenya Meteorological Department has released weather forecasting updates whose validity ranges from 19th June to 24th June.
According to KMD, rainfall is expected over the Coast, some parts over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.
The forecast further highlights that intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South Eastern Lowlands and the Rift Valley.
Morning rains accompanied with afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley; Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot counties.
There is a chance of afternoon and evening showers over a few places during the forecast period.
In the same way, morning rains with cold and cloudy conditions breaking into sunny intervals are expected over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County; Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Meru, Embu Tharaka and Nairobi county.
There is a chance of afternoon as well as night showers over some parts during the forecast period. The nights are expected to be cloudy in most parts.
Morning showers as well as afternoon and night showers are expected over some parts in the Coastal Strip; Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties.
