More people are accidentally receiving money through M-Pesa, showing both honest and dishonest reactions from those who get the money.
Recently, Marto Muriithi received Ksh 100,000 by mistake via M-Pesa. Despite the temptation, he decided to return the entire amount.
Reports say the money came from a Member of Parliament. In a Facebook post, Muriithi said he contacted the bank to get the sender’s contact information after the money showed up in his account.
“They told me they would get back to me soon. I eventually got the sender’s number, resolved the issue, and returned the full amount,” Muriithi shared on Facebook.
The man was upset because the MP did not reward him. When TUKO.co.ke asked why he returned the money instead of keeping it, he said, “I have a clean conscience, a reputation to maintain, and I believe in karma.”
Reflecting on his choice, Muriithi stressed the importance of not taking someone else’s hard-earned money. Despite not receiving thanks from the sender, he stood by his decision, saying he would do it again if necessary.
Muriithi’s actions remind us of the value of honesty and responsible behaviour, especially when faced with temptation.
