Detectives said they are still looking for the husband of a popular Ohangla dancer Sheila Odoyo alias Sheila Wegesha after her body was discovered in her house in Athi River, Machakos County.

But Peter Obugi, Sheila’s elder brother, said the family recognises Odoyo as her husband.

Detectives have appealed to the lover of slain Ohangla dancer Sheila Odoyo alias Sheila Wegesha to surrender.

“Sheila’s mother and father died when she was young. She used to live with her paternal grandmother. I took the responsibility of supporting her because the grandmother was old,” Obugi disclosed to The Nairobian.

According to their eldest daughter Linda Okinyi, Wegesha’s husband is said to have left the home in his Mitsubishi Outlander car which was later discovered around the Kencom area in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD)

Obugi, a resident of Nyamadede village, Gwassi East location in Suba sub-county, said Odoyo formalised his marriage with Sheila by giving them two cows and money.

Sheila Odoyo, 38 who also owned a JB Liquor Store in Umoja Estate alongside her husband, was a popular figure in Nairobi and its environs, particularly within the Ohangla dance scene.

“I am one of the people who received the bride price from Odoyo in our family. I played a parental role even though she was my sister. As a family, the only person we recognise as Sheila’s husband is Odoyo and that is why we have allowed him to bury her,” said Obugi.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known but police said they have clues on the suspected killer. Other social media users claimed infidelity led the man to kill the woman.
