President William Ruto has made a surprise visit to a family living in Mathare’s Kanjo houses, promising them a better and more decent home through the affordable housing program.

During his visit to Mathare depot to assess flooding in the area, Ruto unexpectedly entered the home of a family residing in the city council houses, commonly known as Kanjo houses.

In a heartwarming interaction captured on video, Ruto engaged the head of the household in casual conversations, displaying genuine curiosity about the layout of the dwelling.

In a jovial tone, Ruto asked about the location of various rooms within the residence, expressing his intention to construct 20,000 houses as part of the affordable housing program in the area.

He assured the family of his commitment to providing them with a comfortable home where they could properly care for their children.

“I want to give you a nice house so you can care for your children properly. This house is not up to standard,” said Ruto.

The visit comes in the wake of the government’s initiative to provide cost-effective housing solutions to Kenyans across various regions of the country.

In January, the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development invited interested Kenyans to purchase affordable houses constructed in Bondeni, Nakuru County.

The advertised residences consist of two-bedroom and three-bedroom units, priced at KSh 3.15 million and KSh 4.25 million, respectively.

The government’s housing initiative aims to address the housing needs of low and middle-income families, providing them with access to quality and affordable housing options.
