President William Ruto and Kikuyu Constituency MP Kimani Ichungwa have come under intense scrutiny after a number of MPs raised concerns on the criteria used to allocate the constituency more KERRA funds than the rest.
This was after Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba brought to light what she perceived as unfair allocation of Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) funds by President Ruto’s government.
The MP expressed frustration over what she described as favoritism towards certain regions, particularly highlighting the disparity between allocations for her Githunguri and Kikuyu constituencies.
Wamuchomba pointed out that despite Githunguri having over 104,000 registered voters, while Kikuyu has 98,000, Kikuyu received a significantly larger share of KERRA funds.

According to her post, Kikuyu received Kshs 1,456,000,000.00, which accounts for approximately 94.4% of the total funds allocated to Kiambu County, leaving the other 11 constituencies to share only 5.6%.
The MP also highlighted similar discrepancies in the allocation of Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) funds. She noted that Kikuyu received 63% of the funds allocated to all 12 constituencies in Kiambu County, receiving Kshs 220 million out of Kshs 350 million.
While acknowledging the need for development in all regions, Wamuchomba emphasized the importance of fairness in resource allocation. She questioned whether the allocation process was based on loyalty votes, noting that Githunguri had more loyal voters than Kikuyu by over 6,000.
The MP’s post also hinted at underlying political dynamics, suggesting that certain politicians may be leveraging their influence to prioritize certain constituencies over others.
She lamented the lack of progress towards a “One Man One Shilling” policy, which would ensure equitable distribution of resources regardless of political affiliation or loyalty.
The issue raised by Wamuchomba was also echoed by Azimio MP Caleb Amisi, who questioned Ruto over alleged favouritism in the allocation.
“Kikuyu constituency alone has received ksh 1.4B for road maintenance while entire western region comprising of 5 counties and 39 constituencies has only ksh50m inside kakamega state Lodge. @MusaliaMudavadi and @HonWetangula between two of you and @KIMANIICHUNGWAH who is no. 3 in the ruto government?” posed Caleb Amisi
