A police vehicle has been involved in a bloody accident after being involved in a chase in the Bungoma- Malaba highway. The driver of the police car and another police officer suffered critical injuries and were rushed to Bungoma level 4 hospital for emergency treatment. One other officer is said to have succumbed to his injuries and 2 pedestrians who were hit the police Toyota Land cruiser.
It is gathered the vehicle was chasing a Toyota probox car that was suspected to be carrying smuggled goods from across the neighboring country, Uganda. The police on patrol are said to have been notified and gave chase and on reaching Koteko area near the bridge which is a black spot the officer lost control of the government vehicle and rolled severally before landing in a ditch.
Witnesses gathered at the scene say that the vehicle which was in high speed while overtaking tried to swerve back on it’s lane before it lost control and landed on a ditch. The police in Malaba border post have been trying to end the smuggling business that is rampant in the area.
