Kenyans have given mixed reactions regarding a photo that has surfaced online, showing a concerning situation involving a 14-seater matatu captured in an unknown location.
The image, shared by Sikika Road Safety depicts a scene where the matatu, carrying passengers, is seen without a rear windscreen.
Despite the obvious danger, passengers are seen inside the vehicle, seemingly unaware of the potential safety hazard they are exposing themselves.
Sikika Road Safety took to social media to share the photo while expressing astonishment at the apparent flouting of safety measures. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/YLAN41LzwjjBeYDo/?mibextid=qi2Omg
The post was accompanied by a pointed question: “What kind of nonsense is this?” It then sent a direct appeal to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the National Police Service, to take a swift action to address the alarming situation and hold the owners accountable.
The absence of a rear windscreen poses a significant risk to both passengers and other road users, as it increases the likelihood of accidents. Despite precense of traffic police officers in Kenyan roads all the time, you will always find instances of non-compliance and unroadworthy vehicles in our roads.
A section of Kenyans have voiced their concerns over the apparent indifference of the matatu owners towards ensuring the safety of their passengers.
