When Merilyn Miller came to Kenya for missionary work in 2019, she did not expect to find the love of her life in the streets of Nairobi. What was initially a charitable cause blossomed into a love affair that later turned into marriage.Speaking to Afrimax English, the couple narrated how the love story between Miller and Elvis Aluzimbi began.
Born and bred in Western Kenya, Aluzimbi grew up in poverty as his family lived in economic hardships. He relocated to Nairobi to acquire job opportunities for a better lifestyle.
But things did not turn out well because he was unable to get work of any kind. Aluzimbi turned to drug and alcohol addiction as a coping mechanism as his frustrations increased.
Aluzimbi made the decision to follow Christ and make a lifestyle change in 2015. A few months later, he had the opportunity to work construction and other odd jobs.
Due to their shared enthusiasm for missionary work, the two bonded right away. This developed into a friendship outside of work.
Miller took a plane back to the US after hearing the news and told her family what she had decided. However, because of the disparate cultural backgrounds, the news was met with varying reactions.
Miller chose to move to Kenya and live out the rest of her life with her fiancé, despite the family’s disapproval.
She made the decision to sell her personal items, including a Jeep, in October 2021 in order to travel to Nairobi. The two tied the knot two months later.
