Police in Vihiga are investigating the circumstances under which a primary school head teacher reportedly committed suicide at his home.
Martin Amimo was the head teacher at Givogi Primary School in Hamisi Sub-county. He is reported to have hanged himself from the roof of his house using a manila rope.
The body was discovered by his family members. The teacher allegedly committed the act moments after arriving home from attending athletics competition.
Area Chief confirmed the incident saying the teacher had not shown any signs that he was under any sort of depression or pressure prior to the incident.
The police could not ascertain why he took his own life. A search for a suicide note or any other hints was futile. The body of the deceased was ferried to a nearby morgue awaiting a postmortem.
Teachers and parents described the deceased as a jovial and committed administrator who led the school to post some of the best results in the region. His death is a big blow to the school and the local community.
