Joseph Ogola Olita plays Idi Amin in a scene from the film Rise and Fall of Idi Amin. Joseph Ogola Olita, born on March 31, 1944 in Siaya, is best known for his portrayal of Idi Amin in the film Rise and Fall of Idi Amin. He also appeared in the 1991 film Mississippi Masala.
Joseph Olita was a member of the drama club at St. Mary’s Yala, where he finished his O level education. At this school, he learned how to act. After high school, I was working for USAID when the opportunity to play Idi Amin came knocking.
Joseph Olita was initially approached for a role in the film “Victory at Entebbe.” This failed because he did not adequately portray the character’s abilities.
This prompted him to return to the library and read a slew of newspapers and books about Idi Amin and the man he was. When the opportunity to play Idi Amin in the film The Rise and Fall of Idi Amin arose, Joseph Olita performed so well that he became well-known worldwide.
His likeness to Idi Amin and the character he played was uncanny. At the Las Vegas International Film Festival, he received five awards, including best actor for this film.
