IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati has come out complaining against alleged harassment of the electoral body’s staff.

In the briefing, Chebukati stated, “some of our staff were hijacked and tortured in some areas. Some of their homes were broken into and looted.”
According to Chebukati, some IEBC staff have been forced to take refuge in police stations.
Speaking at the national tallying centre at the Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati indefinitely postponed the presidential polls set for 28th in four counties.
“The commission has deliberated on the various incidents happening in some parts of the country and has postponed the election scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday” stated Chebukati.

The constituencies affected by Chebukati’s announcement include: Alego Usonga, Awendo, Gem, Ugenya, Homa Bay Town, Karachuonyo, Kisumu Central, Muhoroni, Ndhiwa, Nyakach, Rongo, Seme, Suba North, Suna South, Ugunja, Uriri , Bondo, Kasipul Kabondo, Kasipul, Kisumu East, Kisumu West, Nyando, Nyatike , Rangwe, Rarieda, Suna East and Suna West.
Following security concerns in Fafi Constituency, Garissa County, voting is expected to proceed on October 28th as planned.
Voting will also proceed in Turkana Central after heavy rains hindered delivery of election materials.
According to Chebukati, voting has not taken place in 3,635 polling stations with a total of 1,770,475 registered voters.
