EALA Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has shared insights into his connections with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and current President William Ruto. Despite the internal strife within the Jubilee Party, Kega affirmed his positive rapport with Kenyatta, highlighting his loyalty and support until the end of Kenyatta’s term.

However, Kega disclosed that he hasn’t had the opportunity to meet Kenyatta since the 2022 elections or engage in any discussions with him. He acknowledged his sole point of contention with Kenyatta, which was the perceived failure to ensure a seamless transfer of power.

On the other hand, Kega emphasized his cordial relationship with President William Ruto, despite being on opposing sides during the 2022 elections. He underscored their longstanding friendship and mutual respect, stating that they have never been adversaries.

During their tenure in the Jubilee administration under Kenyatta’s leadership, both Ruto and Kega served in various capacities. However, following internal party reshuffles, Ruto was ousted from Jubilee and went on to form the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party, ultimately winning the presidency in the 2022 elections.

Reflecting on his own political journey, Kega acknowledged his defeat in the 2022 General Elections for the Kieni MP seat, losing to Njoroge Wainaina of UDA. Despite this setback, Kega’s transparency regarding his relationships with both Kenyatta and Ruto sheds light on the intricate dynamics within Kenya’s political sphere.

As Kenya grapples with evolving political landscapes, Kega’s insights offer valuable perspectives on the shifting alliances and loyalties within the country’s political elite. His openness about navigating relationships with key figures like Kenyatta and Ruto underscores the nuanced nature of Kenya’s political environment.
