The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition is scheduled to convene a parliamentary group meeting today, Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in response to the NADCO report.
The urgent meeting is set to take place at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (SKM) command centre. The meeting will be chaired by Raila Odinga, the coalition’s leader. The main agenda will be to to scrutinize the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
Released by a 10-member delegation team last Saturday, the report has triggered varied reactions and sparked a division between the opposition and the government.
Martha Karua, the leader of NARC Kenya, and Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa, both part of the dialogue team, have raised objections, arguing that the report neglects crucial issues affecting Kenyans, such as the soaring cost of living.
According to the NADCO report, consensus on the contentious Housing Levy and the reduction of VAT on fuel from 16% to 8% proved challenging. These levies have faced strong public criticism, placing the government under scrutiny.
The proposed measures await approval by the National Assembly and subsequent assent from President William Ruto, pending the granting of a green light.
