In a significant development related to the tragic murder of university student Rita Waeni, Priscila Maina, the owner of the short-stay rental apartment where the incident occurred, has been conditionally released by the Makadara Court in Kasarani, Nairobi.

Senior Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku granted Maina conditional release but mandated her to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI’s) Homicides Unit offices at the DCI headquarters twice a week for the next month.

Maina is scheduled to present herself before investigators every Tuesday and Friday.

Ms. Maina had been in custody due to allegations of failure to register crucial details of her tenant, a legal requirement that could aid DCI officers in tracing the murderer responsible for Rita Waeni’s death.

Lawyer Eunice Katila, representing Ms. Maina, welcomed the court’s decision and expressed readiness to accompany her client during interactions with investigators throughout the granted period.

Katila emphasized that Ms. Maina’s lapse was the failure to record the details of the tenant occupying the apartment where the tragic incident occurred.

Rita Waeni’s murder case has gripped public attention, especially given the gruesome nature of the crime.

The perpetrators dismembered her body and disposed of the remains at a garbage point within the building.

As the investigation progresses, the conditional release of Priscila Maina introduces a new phase in the legal proceedings.

The hope is that this development will contribute to unraveling the circumstances surrounding Rita Waeni’s death and lead to justice being served for the victim and her grieving family.
