Reports have emerged that some ministers in the government of President William Ruto are considering resigning due to their dissatisfaction with the country’s economic decline.

The reports say that some ministers have even submitted their resignation letters to the President, but he has refused to accept them.

According to the reports, late last year, President Ruto reportedly rejected the resignation letter of Finance Minister Professor Njuguna Ndung’u.

“By the end of last year, the minister [Ndung’u] had submitted his resignation letter. He is reportedly disappointed with the direction the country has taken and does not want to take the blame,” the reports said.

The reports say that some of the underlying grievances include the minister being excluded from key decisions, such as those on taxation.

“The minister feels excluded from key issues that affect the management of the country’s economy. He is afraid that he may be blamed for policies or actions that he was not involved in implementing,” the reports said.

Over the past year, President Ruto’s government has come under fire for its decision to continue raising taxes, particularly among formal-sector workers.

Some of the taxes that the government has implemented include housing allowances, an increase in the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) contribution, and a 2.75% increase in the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) contribution.

The reports of ministerial resignations come at a time when the country is facing a number of economic challenges, including rising inflation, a weakening currency, and a growing debt burden.

The reports have also raised concerns about the stability of the government, which is already facing a number of challenges, including internal divisions and corruption allegations.

It remains to be seen whether the ministers will ultimately resign, but the reports suggest that there is growing discontent within the government over the state of the economy.
