The Mombasa county government will name a road after Kenya’s first Vice-President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has said.

Nassir said Jaramogi, who was among the country’s founding fathers, must be remembered for his immense contributions.

He described Jaramogi as a statesman who fearlessly defended the country’s multiparty democracy.

The governor was speaking in Kisumu at Ofafa Memorial Hall during the 30th Anniversary of Jaramogi.

The Mombasa governor also requested that the next anniversary should be celebrated in the Coastal region and within all the 47 counties thereafter.

“Jaramogi was a leader of the people and on behalf of the people of Mombasa, we are requesting to host the next anniversary celebrations,” he said.

Jaramogi was appointed minister for home affairs in 1963, and in 1964 became vice president under founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
