Some of the recent photos going round on social media show how members of the luo communities allegedly arrive home for the Christmas festivities. The photos depict that luos live large in the city and own big cars while at home they leave mud and grass thatched houses.

It’s believed by some that they do not bother to build decent homes in their villages. Romour has it that they do not bother building nice houses in the villages for fear of being bewitched.

I however do not agree with this notion. Not too long ago a challenge was started on a Facebook page called Home Beautiful and most luos showcased huge massions they have invested in in the villages as their retirement homes. The challenge was deemed as ‘My Dead Capital’ and it arose after media personality Oga Obinna claimed that building a huge mansion in the village is ‘Dead Capital’. He argued that the money could be invested elsewhere for profits.
