Leso/Kanga is a traditional rectangular cloth which originated at the coast of East Africa in the mid 19th century. The leso usually has a wide border, central motif and writing (ujumbe or jina).
Lesos sport bold messages mostly wise sayings addressing everyday subjects like friendships, relationships, marriages, people’s character etc. They are usually printed in bold designs and bright colours.
Some of these messages on leso’s are suggestive and they are either the designers choice or personalized as per client demands. From sporting messages that attack enemies, mock people and even warning one of his/her wicked ways, leso’s are used to send out messages to different parties.
