A 36-year-old woman, Teresia Nyambura, is accused of cyberbullying a man and his wife on social media after meeting them at an event. Nyambura allegedly posted photos with insulting captions about the couple, whom she had befriended online.
Court documents show that Nyambura wrote on December 5, “Weeh juzi nilienda event nikameet one of my followers kumbe kijana amewekwa na sugar mummy karibu wa mathegere achapwe ni mehemehe nitawacha kusalimia watu,” implying that the man’s wife was a sugar mummy who would soon beat him up. She also said, “I was shocked kuona kumbe huringa na gari ya mumamaz na kila saa kumsifu,” indicating that the man was bragging about his car and praising his wife all the time.
Nyambura had previously contacted the man on Facebook, where they exchanged phone numbers and had conversations. However, when she saw him at the event, he allegedly asked her to stay away from him as he was with another woman. Nyambura felt hurt and angry, and decided to confront the man and ignore the woman next to him, before leaving the scene.
Nyambura is now facing two charges of cyberbullying, which she denied when she appeared before Makadara Law Courts Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi. She was released on Sh20,000 bail and is expected to appear in court again on July 10.
