In recent times, a surge in occurrences involving law enforcement officers entering entertainment venues and causing disturbances has raised concerns across various regions of the Republic of Kenya. The most recent incident unfolded in Nakuru, where a police officer was implicated in the fatal shooting of a female bartender amid a dispute over a Sh16,000 bill at a popular club.
Reliable reports received indicate that three additional patrons are currently undergoing treatment for severe gunshot wounds at Nakuru Level Five Hospital. The officer allegedly declined to settle the bill, leading to the unfortunate altercation.
The incident transpired at 2 a.m. on Wednesday, with the officer discharging his firearm within the pub before evading capture. Authorities successfully apprehended the officer, subsequently confining him to the Kaptembwa police station.
Law enforcement officials disclosed that the three victims, comprising two males and one female, are presently hospitalized. Eyewitnesses detailed a verbal dispute between the officer and the bartender preceding the gunfire.
During the incident, the officer was in civilian attire, as confirmed by the police. The gunshots inflicted injuries on three other patrons, with one sustaining a chest injury, another an upper abdomen injury, and a third individual sustaining injuries to the pelvis, abdomen, and chest, as verified by visiting police officers.
While the victims are in stable but critical condition, law enforcement revealed the arrest of the implicated police officer. A Jericho pistol with two rounds of 9mm ammunition was seized, and six spencartridges were recovered during the arrest.
