Samuel Onyango Ayodo was his name. He was from Kowidi in the Nyanza region of Kabondo. He was one of Prime Minister Jomo Kenyatta’s youngest Cabinet members. In 1963, Ayodo was named Kenya’s first cabinet minister for Local Government at the age of 33.Maseno School graduates attended Makerere University in Uganda. Ayodo received a scholarship to study at Union College in Nebraska, the United States, after graduating from Makerere, and in 1952, he became the first Luo not only to study in the United States, but also to graduate in education, history, and religious studies (Bachelor of Science in Education).

When he returned, he was hired as a teacher at his previous school, Kamagambo. He eventually transferred to Agoro Sare Secondary School and then to the nearby Kisii Secondary School. Ayodo established his political basis and career at Kisii. The bug of politics bit him early in life, and he became actively involved in teacher labor and welfare concerns. Ayodo, along with a former Makerere University classmate, was one of the founders of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut), an umbrella teachers’ association.
