In a turn of events, the groom whose wedding was scheduled to take place in Kapsoyo, Bomet County on Saturday has finally spoken up about the cancellation of the ceremony. Amos Rono, a 30-year-old man, publicly announced that he has decided not to proceed with his plans to marry Nelly Chepkoech. Rono disclosed the unfolding of events and accused Chepkoech of being untrustworthy and keeping him in the dark about her true feelings.

Rono explained that his decision stemmed from Chepkoech’s lack of sincerity. According to him, she waited until the eleventh hour to reveal that she was involved with another man and had not fully committed to marrying him. Expressing his disappointment, Rono stated, “My plans to wed Nelly Chepkoech are over because she was not sincere. She only waited until the last minute to open up and declare she was dating another man. She had not fully decided on marrying me.”

On Thursday afternoon, Chepkoech informed Reverend Reuben Koech, the Tenwek Area Director of Africa Gospel Church, that she was not ready to proceed with the wedding. Rono clarified that the allegation that the church postponed the wedding was false, and it was Chepkoech who initiated the decision through a text message to the Reverend.

Speaking from his home in Kapsoyo to The Standard, Rono revealed that Chepkoech initially claimed she was too young and not ready to settle down. However, upon further questioning, she admitted to having another man in her life and being uncertain about marrying Rono. The revelation occurred during an emergency meeting convened by the presiding Reverend.

Rono declared that he has chosen to end the relationship and has no intention of marrying Chepkoech anymore. He expressed his shock at discovering that she had concealed her involvement with another man despite their plans for marriage. Rono mentioned, “It is over between the two of us, and I would want to wish her all the best. We enjoyed a good relationship, and I was shocked that she had not told me she had another man in her life.”

Reflecting on the situation, Rono shared that Chepkoech had convinced him to forgo a pre-wedding ceremony due to financial constraints. Instead, they organized a farewell event at her local church in their absence.

Amos Rono’s mother, Sara Nyigei, also commented on the matter. While acknowledging that Chepkoech’s disclosure was heartbreaking, she stated that the family had accepted her decision. However, she emphasized that Chepkoech was no longer welcome in their family, expressing disappointment in her actions. Despite having paid dowry for Chepkoech, Rono’s mother asserted that they were releasing her without holding any grudge against her or her family.
