Kenyans across the country have been given a stern warning by the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) which has recently claimed that it has been receiving unending cases of vandalism of its properties leading to unplanned power outages.

As per the company, crackdown has already started in several estates across the country and that culprits will face dire consequences should they be arrested and found guilty.

Notably, the company has indicated that culprits will be charged a fine of not less than Ksh5 million or a term imprisonment of ten years or both should they be found to have committed either of these offences.

1) Illegal connection of electricity to their own homes or those of their neighbors.

2) Vandalism of electric poles, transformers and power cables.

3) Tampering with their meter boxes in bid to escape some charges by the electricity provider.

To curb the issues of vandalism, the company further announced that Kenyans can report directly to them by calling number 97771 or they can also report any suspicious operations to Kenya Power offices near them.

Additionally the company also indicated that it can be easily reached by dialing ussd code *977# to report any power-related incident.
