Senators convened on Wednesday in the Senate chambers where they debated various issues including the delay by the National Treasury to disburse their operational funds that has paralyzed activities in their offices.

While speaking on Wednesday, Senators lamented that the upper house is being neglected by the government compared to the National Assembly. They demanded that going forward, the executive must treat the Senate with respect and dignity just like their colleagues in the National Assembly.

While speaking on the delay of the disbursement of operational funds, Nairobi Senator Hon Edwin Sifuna took a swipe at Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen after his expensive watch was displayed online

Sifuna wondered how a Cabinet Secretary could afford such an expensive watch during this turf economic time while Senators were complaining of delay in the disbursement of operational funds from the government.

“Somehow the members of the executive are living large, today I saw a Cabinet Secretary wearing a Ksh 4 million watch on his wrist. I was like aaai, Mr Speaker how is this possible in this economy” Sifuna said as Senators laughed.

This comes after the majority of senators complained that their staff have not been paid their dues in recent months. They threatened to boycott Thursday’s session until when the National Treasury will disburse their funds before heading for a recess.
